King & Prince’s final single Tsukiyomi launched simply after it was revealed that three of the 5 members can be leaving the group this spring. Now, the group is working on momentum till that fateful second. Double a-side Life Goes On / We Are Younger serves double obligation as a twin OST providing and a musical farewell of kinds. Although there’ll probably be a brand new track or two on their upcoming biggest hits album (no less than I hope so!), that is undoubtedly the ultimate single we’ll be getting from this configuration of King & Prince.
Each songs really feel extra milquetoast than I’d have hoped for, however unsurprisingly I’m drawn to the extra upbeat of the 2. It helps that Life Goes On serves because the ending theme to member Nagase Ren’s present drama Yugure ni, Te wo Tsunagu. That is simply my favourite drama of the season and an absolute delight to look at. That goes a good distance towards infusing the track with private bias. It’s a tacky, upbeat pop stomper, but it surely jogs my memory of the drama and the goofy dance that goes together with the top credit. Generally, that’s sufficient.
It’s sufficient to forgive the truth that Life Goes On appears like a industrial jingle. It’s sufficient to forgive the insipid whistling that opens the monitor. And, it’s sufficient to momentarily overlook the group has made way more fascinating music than this up to now. As an alternative, I’ve fortunately embraced this chipper pleasure bomb. I’m into its hand-clappy refrain and boisterous “oh!”s that punctuate the sing-song melody. It is probably not excessive artwork, however I’ll take the unabashed jolt of optimism.
