The Area We Maintain is a five-part documentary collection that includes composers Saad Haddad, Jeffrey Mumford, inti-figgis vizueta, Pamela Z, Billy Childs, and others.
Co-created by VC Artists Nathan Meltzer and Devin Moore, Opus Illuminate‘s latest undertaking, The Area We Maintain, is offered in partnership with the Alphadyn Basis.
The collection consists of each recorded performances and interviews to offer perception into the non-public lives and compositional kinds of every composer. The purpose of the undertaking is to humanize the music and facilitate a private relationship between the viewers and the composer. Subjects vary from early schooling and musical upbringing to the distinctive experiences of being a composer that’s a part of a historically underrepresented or mistreated group.

Born in 1992, Haddad’s current commissions embody a piano concerto for IRCAM and the Orchestre nationwide d’Île-de-France; a clarinet concerto for Kinan Azmeh and the Princeton Symphony; two string quartets for the Lydian and Callisto Quartets; a blended octet for the Worldwide Up to date Ensemble; and an orchestral work for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
His orchestral works have been carried out by the Minnesota Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra, Illinois Philharmonic, Chicago Composers Orchestra, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, amongst others. As the present Dean’s Fellow at Columbia College, he served as Younger Live performance Artists’ 2019–2021 Composer-in-Residence.
